Majority of small scale farmers have limited access to market information about the changes in value of farm products and agricultural inputs, and usually rely on information from traders (middlemen) who usually skew the information in their favor in order to exploit the farmers. For effective participation and gain satisfactory share of products market margins, small scale procures, SORAINE-Uganda aims at empowering and facilitating to access quality and timely market information that allows them to negotiate prices favorably and generate sufficient cash incomes that enables them meet the basic household needs. With market information, farmers will make right investment decisions and improve agro-enterprises production efficiencies, enable them choose the appropriate supply centers (market niches) with the right deliveries and quality standards. This will enable them compete favorably in the market environment with no or minimum losses or risks as they learn to diversify their production by integrating or choosing alternative options such as those that have higher-value, low risk crop and livestock enterprises, or/and change the production patterns that responds to market changes and demands. Market information and knowledge sharing is thus crucial for transforming the small scale producers on traditional farming practices as to modern farming for business. The information allows the farmers to timely know the location and prices of agricultural inputs as well as the prices of farm products in different markets, by establishing the most effective channels and system of market sharing such mass media, FM radios internet or/and establishing community-based market information centers. Organizing forum where stakeholders exchange ideas, knowledge and challenges pertaining to the production and marketing information.
